Hello I have the Old Pl 700 Jandy Salt Generators Has anyone found a Source to repair them or Rebuild them ? Seems like such a Waste for the entire unit to Not be recycled or Rebuilt. I have been thru 2 in 4 years and Going to the 3rd one this season. I see corrosion or Loss of Metal at the PIN attaching to the Plate when Looking inside. Seems it would be and Easy fix to Rebuild these.

Thanks
J

Welcome to TFP.

That is often where those cells fail. It is not economical for someone to rebuild them. Most of the cost is in the rare earth coated titanium plates.

How many gallons in your pool?

Your cell may be undersized for your pool which is why you only get 2 years out of it. There may be better value in a PL1400 cell for you.

The two 700 I have gone thru Corroded from the Pin the Plates are still intact Both of them. so the Pin corrodes away from the Plates. I was running the PL 700 at 75%.......Now I did what you said and went to a PL1400 and Lowered it to 35% so we will see think if this fails I am going to Chlorine Tab System Like I had 20 Years ago....At a 800 a pop I can Buy a Lot of Chlorine

The power supply is different but i think you can set it for either 700 or 1400. Make sure it's set properly.

Both cells use the same Power Center box. However there is a jumper on the Power Interface Board that is connected for the 1400 cell and cut for the 700 cell. The Power Center comes configured for the 1400 cell and the JL1 jumper must be cut if using the 700 cell.

If you are switching from the 700 cell to the 1400 cell the JL1 jumper needs to be reconnected.

The PLC700's have a 2 prong plug system and the PLC1400's have a 3 prong plug system.

Page 17 in the Jandy Power Center Installation Manual shows the location of the jumper.

Have you been replacing the power cord when you replace the cell?

When replacing the cell, it's important to replace the power cord so that the connections are clean and the resistance is minimized.

The prongs are sealed by O-rings and a compression plate held down by two screws. The problem is that the O-rings can leak, which creates a corrosive mix of water, salt, hydrogen gas and chlorine gas. This corrosion increases the resistance of the connection and generates a lot of heat due to the high current of 6 to 8 amps.

The center prong is the most common point of failure. You can usually see evidence of a leak when you know to look for it.
