image0.jpegThere's a small leak in the union where water exits the pump into the filter. I do not see any cracks in the union, but I suspect there's something small that opens up under the pressure. I plan to replace that as soon as the part arrives.

In the manual there's an o-ring (R0446101) that seems to fit under the tailpiece. The Jandy instructions say "place the o-ring into the groove of the tailpiece. Hand tighten the union nuts into the ports of the pump."

When I unscrewed the union nut, I did not find an o-ring. I purchased one, but there's no groove underneath the tailpiece. I don't see anyplace to fit an o-ring. And when I look at replacement tailpieces on the Web, some of them show a groove on the bottom. The union nut that is leaking has part number A0578700, which I've read is equivalent to the R0446101.

Is it common to not have an o-ring on this connection? Could this be causing the leak? Is the current A0578700 the incorrect part for this pump? It does screw into the Jandy properly. It worked fine for a few years and the leak just sprung recently, but maybe some aftermarket unions don't have the o-ring.

Groove is between the tailpiece (part the pipe is glued into) and the actual pump. Its there.
Your O ring is probably broken, or flattened. I've seen them so flat they look like they are a part of the tailpiece.

Thank you, both! I found it flattened into the tailpiece as you said. Unfortunately, replacing the o-ring didn't stop the leak. But I have a new union.

The Oatley PVC glue says temps from 40 to 110 F. I am in Phoenix where it gets around 120 F. I suspect the pipes get even hotter in the direct sunlight. Is there another product people use to bond the PVC and tailpiece in extremely hot temperatures?
