Jandy CL460 - Advice on Replacing Bulkhead

Hello everyone!
This is my first post on the forum -- this seems like an awesome community and I'm excited to join!

Background
About a week ago, the bulkhead on my Jandy C460 (pre-2008 model) spa filter failed and developed a major leak. I drained the spa completely, removed the old bulkhead and O-ring. I ordered a new bulkhead and O-ring (part# R0358200) and have replaced in the unit but something seems off. When I go to reattach the new bulkhead to the old half union, it does not seem like it would be water tight, or even remotely close. Before I add the water and fill the pump, I wanted to check that I haven't missed anything major.

Questions
1. Am I missing something easy here? An O-ring, or other part that should be there?
2. Is it a good idea to replace the existing half union?

Thank you all for the help!
-George

Welcome to TFP.
Show a photo of the half union you removed. Did you try to thread it to the mating half before you screwed it into the filter to ensure the threads were the same?
There is a seal on one of the half unions. It looks like it should be on the face of the one on the right (with collar)
Also, the 2 halves do not seem to align perfectly straight (or it could be the angle of the photo).

Thank you both for the quick replies!

@HermanTX -- I did check that the threads were the same, thank for you confirming that. And yes, the two sides are not perfectly straight, I will work on aligning the filter so that they are straight.

@wireform -- Thank you for pointing that out! I ordered a new set of O rings just now and will make sure to include the proper O ring when reassembling.

I should be reassembling the filter, adding water, and reassembling the system over the weekend (8/5-8/6). I will update the post after doing so.

Update -- I installed the O-ring and everything worked out with the half union!

Bad news on the outlet bulkhead though. After reassembling the filter and turning ton the pump, I have a decent leak at the bulkhead. The O ring that I replaced looked a little too thick and it seems like it is preventing the bulkhead from "screwing" in all the way flush to the filter housing. There is an approximate 1/8" gap from the bulkhead to the filter and I believe that it is being caused by an O ring that is too thick.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of leak at the bulkhead/filter connection? Should I try to find a thinner O ring of the same diameter? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Did you screw in that half union into the filter housing without the oring to test the thread? Was there a gap?

Does the oring seal at the top of the thread or at the bottom? Meaning, does the oring have to slip over the male threads to be positioned on the part? If so, the oring seals at the top of the thread. I think normally that is how most connections are but want to verify.
If so, you do not want the end of the thread to bottom out in the filter female thread before it squeezes the oring.
Maybe post a photo of the part and another when it is screwed into the filter housing.
