I have a small 12 x 16 fiberglass, 5,500 gallon pool. I use a Jacuzzi JC 150 cartridge filter and just had to replace a 4 year old Pentair 1.5 HP variable speed pump. Shame on you Pentair! So, I recently purchased the Jacuzzi 1.65HP variable speed pump. I use a Rola Chem pump to add liquid chlorine into the pool. So far I am completely satisfied and hope the pump lasts more than 4 years.

I have a 1.5hp single speed carvin pump (which is made/owned by jacuzzi) - my original one had the on/off switch go out @ 1.5 yrs under warranty so I received a whole new pump that is a little different design that’s not supposed to get so hot. The motor itself is a century which is a common one. Mine seems to do it’s job. Since I have a spare now I am hopeful I won’t have to buy a pump for a long time.
