I've got the groundhog blues

So, we have black HDPE pipe that goes out the back of our pool house and then underground to our skimmers. A few years ago, a groundhog chewed a few nice holes in the line. At the time, we "fixed" the problem with some electricians tape. What's a better way to fix this - aside from digging up everything and replacing the whole pipe? Is there a way to discourage groundhogs from chewing on the line (like aluminum foil or something)? This pool has turned out to be way more than I bargained for and I am just at my wit's end. (doesn't help that one of our fittings wasn't tightened enough so the PVC inside the pool house came apart and I am now drenched in algae water).

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

I doubt aluminum foil will hold back a groundhog.

Maybe wrapping the hoses in a tight wire mesh might.

But if you can dig down to wrap the hoses with wire mesh you can just as easily replace the hoses with schedule 40 rigid PVC.
