Its been that type of couple of years. I would think that most of the folks around here would be ok with the original word. Just putting it out there. I dont think it would be a slippery slope of potty mouthed posts!!!

You know, I actually like rules that restrict word use and require a level of respect be shown to others. They force me to get creative and to carefully construct my statements to let someone know what I'm saying without actually saying it. I'm a better writer because of it.

But while I don't have a strong opinion either way, I'm not sure what this accomplishes. If you're talking about something in the pool then "crud" gets the job done. If you are describing the advice a pool store is giving or a chemical that doesn't belong in the water then the creativity imposed by the restriction actually makes the statement stick better with the receiver. I don't really care if the word is used, I just don't see a situation where the forum would benefit from the change.

Me and @mguzzy make up reasons to use the corrected ‘Richard’ in context in PM and it’s 10X funnier that way

This site has a profanity filter?!? Well that's a load of :poop:

All kidding aside, I like coming here for the pool info AND the fact that I can waste my time without worrying about political rants, insults, etc. You see that way too often on the internet and I like having my little TFP safe haven, even if it is a bit overly G rated at times.

I agree with @Donldson and I am reminded of what my dad used to say to us kids when our language got a little too salty for his liking -

"Profanity is the sign of a weak mind with a bad argument trying to express itself forcefully ... "

Mine went one step further and said when we used different words (autocorrect V1.0) we made the person that we were speaking with think of the actual word and we basically said it anyway in a roundabout way. So ‘Oh shoot!!!’ Was just as bad as the real thing.

Well, apparently I stand corrected, both in my choice of words and my stance.
I don't think there's any reason not to say what you said and how. There's no correction to an honest opinion, in my honest opinion. Perhaps there is disagreement and your opinion might not be the way things end up happening, but you did right by speaking up. I've bristled at that autocorrect myself, because my personal threshold for language is set a bit higher.

I really appreciate this website being a place where the focus is entirely on pools and we leave all the other stuff at the door. Not bringing all that other ... crud ... inside with us means there's more room for civil discussion and I can even learn a thing or two if I pay attention.

I only talk politics on one website. And you need a THICK skin! I really like the atmosphere here. And it is no crudshoot.

My daily private life language is as salty as you can get. My late father (Navy veteran) instilled me with a wealth of colorful words and phrases, but also (and importantly) the wisdom of when to use these words and phrases.

I've never been offended by anyone's language, and thus wouldn't be bothered by it- but I don't see the need, frankly. And as far as hot-button topics? I don't even discuss most of those with my family anymore. I have my opinions, they have theirs, and nobody is changing anyone's mind. So be it. ☮️

Everyone's threshold for what is polite discourse and what is obscene language is different. TFP decided a long time ago that the language in public posts needed to be g-rated. It helps the website run more smoothly and keep a civil tone. Also the mods are all very different people with different tolerance levels for "highly expressive" language. By not allowing any cursing on the forum we don't get in situations where, for example Newdude is arguing that they got an infraction for saying "poopie doo-doo" in a post but points out that Joyfull Noise says "doo-doo poopie" all the time and never gets in trouble for it. With the word filter in place inconsistent enforcement of the no foul language rule is pretty rare. Plus if we had to manually edit all these posts we wouldn't have time to do anything else! There are plenty of places on the internet where folks can vent their frustrations and use any type of language they choose. Is it so bad that we keep this one little corner of it g-rated?

I prefer “ OH FECAL MATTER! “ myself … unless I’m talking to a Brit, then it’s spelled “FAECAL” ….
