So after backwashing my filter for like the 10th time this spring due to pollen I was fed up and decided to look at bigger filters.
In my Google searching frustration I stumbled across a 26" pentair sand dollar filter with clear pro for $400. I said to myself that's a darn good deal on a filter that size. Mentioned it to the wife as a hey that a pretty good deal kind of tone. A quick typing of the credit cards later it was ordered without much other thought by me. The wife was sick of hearing me complain about backwashing that darn old filter.
My first clue I might have "gone big or gone home" was the freight shipping notification that said 120lbs shipping weight.
Then came the 7 50lbs bags of filter sand. I got looks like why is he hoarding all that sand while in the store. Like who in the world needs 7 bags of sand for a 15x30 pool. ... Ok that last bit might have been some mental projection.
Finally today it was delivered. A lot lighter than claimed but the box did not disappoint in size. After about 5 hours of hack plumbing later the monster filter is in and ready to go.
The increased flow rate thru the filter has my pool look like a small rapid now. There's a whirlpool forming like 10 feet away from the return.
So yeah I think 26 inches of sand filter might have a tad bit of overkill for my little 15x30 AGP but I think I like it.
The old 19" filter looks so tiny now.
