Hello to all,

Our pool was activated Jan 2015 and obtained our first remote on 3/2015...it lasted approximately 1 yr till 3/2016. It would not hold a charge. Contacted another PB and he was nice enough to replace old-style remote w the newer model that we have now. Well, this one just cratered bc when you take it off the charger and it's showing full charge, the screen now goes blank in about 2 seconds. when I put it back on the charger, is starts to show the battery indicator as recharging. [Pic 1 showing low charge cycle, Pic 2, showing that it is charging].

Questions:

1. Has anyone successfully changed the battery on this model?
2. If yes to (1)., what type of make and model battery?
3. What were the procedures and any special tools you used to successfully replace the battery?

Notes:
1. I have never allowed the charger to be in the water even though this is advertised as "floatable"
2. Have never left it outside over night or for any extended period of time
3. Uses: Mainly left on charger stand to perform tasks inside instead of at e-pad and while in the spa
4. Both sets of contacts on charger and remote are in good shape, clean and no oxidation.

Thank you and pls advise, tstex

shird,

Here's the make/model: Hayward Goldline AQL2-POD2 AquaPod 2.0 Touchscreen. The older version below this one was lithium, so I am sure this one is lithium too.

Before I post a request, I do searches and youtube searches for repairs...only repair of the older model came up, not this one. But, I did find that over 25-45% of the user reviews stated that their Hayward remote cratered as soon as 2 weeks to 18 mo's, meaning it just completely failed. Hayward states a 3 yr warranty if purchased w your original pool equipment, but Hayward corp told everyone on the reviews that I read it was only 1 yr...

You have to hand it to their engrs to be able to plan their obsolescence so accurately to right after the warranty ends...below is a link to the product I have - thanks

Thanks again - I too found that from a 2011-12 TFP thread. Note too, two diff models...

It's obvious to me that the manufacturer wants to be in the planned resell of the same equipment business. One poster was able to pull the remote apart and replace it w a diff size battery and retrofit; I'm ok w that too.

In the grand scheme of things, I don't mind having to buy a new car after 4-5 yrs and 80-100K miles. But if I had to buy a new one every 36K miles, I'd feel like I do now w this product...

We have the 1st generation Aqua Pod remote. We received it as part of our pool build in 2012. The battery has held up surprisingly well. Last year it started losing its charge pretty quickly. This year I have to put it on the charger in the morning if I plan to use it that day.

I have an Aqua Connect and can use my phone as a remote, but my phone doesn't float in the spa the way the Aqua Pod does. ;)

I've thought about trying to open up the Aqua Pod to replace the battery, but I figure I would never get it sealed properly to be waterproof.

I really treat these as water resistant, not water proof...I'm really ok w the remote sitting on the spa coping and not in the water...if you could live w that, you should be good to go...I have almost the same H-wrd things you do...what do you need to make yours work w your cell phone...I could live w that too...in fact, I'd rather do that and just leave remote inside for viewing and changes from the house; cell phone for outside and other...

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you...tstex

Hello All,

I have successfully replaced the battery in an AQL2-POD2 remote unit.
Given the unit's original housing integrity, it is still water tight.
The result is a unit working with an even better battery capacity than when the unit was brand new.

Please note: an improperly sourced replacement battery could be dangerous and result in fires.

Please feel free to message me as I offer this repair to folks who are interested.

Great Matt, good job.

can you pls post the make & model of battery you used? Then, how you opened it snd anything you believe is sage advice on the repair. Many times just one little trick or technique makes the difference.

as far as making it water proof,, what was on the inside that the OEM used?

thanks again

Can you tell me how to replace the battery? Thanks! Dave

Since I’m not going to be doing this multiple times per yr, no use in reinventing the wheel. I think I’m going to go ahead and send my remote to Matt & let him do it. Maybe if we all do so at the same time, we can achieve an economies to scale w Matt.

Matt, can you pls send me a PM w both parts & labor and a general turnaround time? I could send you a Ck for parts, when parts arrive, send you remote and Ck for labor costs. Mine still wks on charger, so whatever we could do to minimize downtime would be optimal. I have an EcoStar pump that trips the breaker often, and the remote displays the “CHECK SYSTEM” error. If I’m traveling, my wife snd daughters know to go flip breaker. If not snd it trips, I’ll have a green pool.

Thanks & pls advise,
tstex

Hey matt, really appreciate your help here. I need Battery Replacement as well. If it is easy I can do it myself. I need links to where I can order the parts. And would also appreciate if someone can upload a video for us to see so we can follow the exact steps.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat as a few others here. I too have a remote with a battery that needs to be replaced. My remote is the same as the one posted in this thread if that makes a difference.

Matt, can you please post details of the battery you used or PM me. Thanks!!

Hey - had a quick question about the remote .. mine stopped working, but I don't think it's the battery, as it has no power (screen is blank) when I put in on the base. I prefer not to play around with the battery since issue seems like it is more invovled?
