Yesterday I decided that I finally got my algae problem licked so I don't need to keep dumping tons of chlorine in my pool several times a day. Until now, I haven't been running the SWG, as per recommendations. But is there any point in doing now? I only have 3 20kg bags of salt, so I'd probably have to get more to get to the required level (my current level is 1400ppm). Living 45° away from the equator, should I just maintain chlorine w/out the salt for the next couple of months?

Yes, as soon as nighttime temperatures dip near 10 C, swimming season is over. So keep your salt for next year. The later you winterize, the cleaner your water will be after ice out. I usually winterize when water reaches 6 C; early November. Just before the permanent ice cover sets, I dissolve some cal hypo in a pail and distribute it around the pool. I open to clear water in early May.
