Hubby has been great about buying bleach and MA when I ask him too. I have him buy a couple gallons when low so it is on hand if needed & his last run was just a couple days over a month ago. Usually he adds what I ask him too & it has been working out great…I test & maintain, he buys & adds what I ask him too.

I go to add some bleach myself (couple cups to help SWG day before I cleaned cell) and notice the 2 new ones he had bought (and thankfully have not needed yet) and I am like this is not bleach. He had bought Algaecide & Clarifier. Thank goodness I noticed before the real bleach ran out & he got into that stuff lol.

I ask hubby why he bought that instead of bleach and he tells me they had it listed as bleach on their website & on sale so he went to store to buy it. I point to the label and say “Babe, did you not read the label? It says something completely different than bleach?” lol. He tries to find it on the website to show me…I keep pointing at label…he never finds it…I am still like do you not read labels? Lol 😂🤣😝

Anyways, I did not find out he bought “bleach” that does not say bleach anywhere on the label but does say Algaecide & Clarifier…which we do not need…until 1 day over the 30 days since bought lol. And as far as I understand, even if we have an algae outbreak, still do not need.

Is there anything 2 gallons of it might be useful for, since past the 30 day return? Cleaning ladder or something on breakdown or anything?

I believe it's Polyquat...just generic. It kills/inhibits algae, but it's not a sanitizer like Chlorine.

Algaecide - Further Reading

I believe some people use it when closing the pool for the winter if the water will be warm...I'm in Michigan, so our water is solid during the winter ;)

Smarter people than I would know more :)

It is, but it is cheeeeeeap. TFP recommends Polyquat 60, this stuff is 1/10th the strength. Fine to use for closing or if there's a situation where OP would need to do a process that requires low chlorine (metal treatment, for instance) but the two gallons has less algaecide in it than a 32 ounce bottle of Poly 60.

We plan on breaking down & storing it away this winter…used puzzle foam mats that hubby installed outside in so not lined up correctly & needs to be fixed or removed lol. 1st year learning experience so better next year. Fine under pool (sooo soft) but outside have to weigh down since not all connect right.

Do Algaecide & clarifiers have a long shelf life? May consider leaving it up next year if we get the floor just right. But that is a whole nother can of worms, keeping a temporary ABG up in weather that can freeze…have seen videos but would like to know what you guys think. If no good, then no reason to try to keep it.

As Donldson said...it's cheap algaecide - throw it on Facebook Marketplace...use this incident as needed to chasten your husband...

"Hey...don't give me that...remember when you bought that ALGAECIDE instead of BLEACH?...Seriously....what were you thinking..oh thats right, you weren't...and another thing..."

Wait..sorry, flashbacks...
