Is something missing here??

Hello all! I had a new guy open my pool this year. He surely didn't earn that $200 I had to pay him! But my ladders and hand rails are all loose. When I go to tighten them, the bolts are just spinning in place! I've never had this problem in the past and have always been able to tighten them myself. Could he have pulled something out in hopes that I would have to call him back to fix or is it something I'm doing wrong here??

Thanks!

It looks like there used to be a collar around that pole on top of the concrete. Pretty standard. He or you miss a bag?

Nah, that's where I've pulled up the escutcheon (yes, I had to go look up what the name of this thing was! :D) and haven't pressure-washed it yet. I was thinking there was some kind of other ring there. Or am I just missing the hole that it screws into? (que the peanut gallery! LOL)

I believe they use a wedge not unlike the wedge on the handlebar gooseneck on a bicycle. If the wedge came off, the bolt will spin freely because it isn't threaded into anything. If the threads are stripped, bolt or wedge, it will also spin without tightening but not so easily. He needs to come back and make good on what he charged you.

Thanks Richard! They ALL are spinning freely as if there's nothing there to thread into. Thus, my suspicion that they were tampered with. But, I gave up a long time ago on pool guys doing what they should! I've looked online for this part but can't seem to find it. What is the name of it...do you know? I'd prefer to get the part and fix it myself. He won't be back...that's his punishment!:D

It might well be laying down in the bottom of the hole. If someone unscrewed the thing all the way, the wedge fell in.

PERFECT!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Well, they're not cheap, now are they?? LOL Guess I will go check and make sure they aren't laying in the bottom!

Well, happy to report that all but one were in the bottom! I am missing one but that could have been the pool builder that did that! There were come pebbles in there as if it was rigged...absolutely the MO of the pool builder!

Thanks again Richard!
