Is sequestrant harmful if added but not needed?

We have iron in our pool water ( from filling with well water). We’re in the process of filtering this out using the polyfil filter method, which seems to be working well so far. Some one suggested I may want to add sequestrant as added insurance when this filtering process is complete. I’m all for being cautious, but just wondering if there is any harm in adding a sequestrant to pool if it wasn’t really necessary? And would the sequestrant that affect other chemicals in the pool?

Thx for your help.

There is no harmful effect for adding sequestrant. You may end up using a little more chlorine every day, but that's about it. If you have to use a well to top off your pool a sequestrant can help keep the new iron in suspension.
