After 11 successful summers, I think my Jandy PlusHP (model PHPM2.0) pool pump has finally breathed its last. But while I'm searching for a replacement, I thought I'd give this forum a chance to see if anyone can help me with anything I can do to repair the current one. As I tried starting the pump for the first time this season, it just hummed and then eventually tripped the circuit breaker. Having been down this path at least twice before, I immediately ordered a new run capacitor and installed it today only to discover it still didn't work. I then tried spinning the motor shaft only to find it wouldn't budge. After several attempts to move it with a crescent wrench it finally started turning but with a lot of resistance. I wouldn't say it's spinning "freely" at all. Is the shaft turning the only thing to attempt or is it worthwhile to start removing the casing to see if I can get deeper inside and clear anything? Or am I tempting with fate?
Assuming it's time for a replacement, I have several questions:
1. Can one just purchase the motor and replace that, or do I need to replace the entire pump?
2. How standard are plumbing connections? Do I need to be concerned that another model/brand won't line up to the plumbing?
3. What's the deal with variable pumps and should/could I be looking to replace with that or stick with the standard 2HP pump I have?
4. Besides 2 returns and a vacuum port, I also have 2 water jets and a boulder waterfall. No separate pump for any of that. I understand taking all of this into consideration is important when determining proper pump size. Do I stay with a 2HP pump?
TIA for any advice!!
