I would recommend buying a bunch of long zip ties, attaching a fine stream nozzle to a hose and using a bucket when you remove the cell and clean it. Find a comfortable seat in the shade too.
I have yet to use the diluted acid method and have not had to clean it yet this year so far. Last year it fouled faster when my TA was above 60 and pH was above 7.5. My CH is 250ppm. Having it go into a low salt / high scale shut down for the week of vacation would be a problem.

Yeah, I was planning on using the acid method. Seems simple to do. But, I agree. I’ll definitely clean it before going on my first camping trip if it hasn’t already shut itself down by then. Thanks for your help.

It’s scaling because your CSI is 0.46. If you manage it close to zero or just a little negative, you may not ever need to clean it and it’ll last longer.

Likely the csi is so high because the CH is also way high.

But my city water is very hard. Is there a way to bring it down without constantly draining 1/3 of the pool?

Have a water softener you can use to fill the pool with? I’ve read that you can get an RV type water softener for not outrageous cost but I’ve no experience with that.

Just beware every time you clean that cell with acid reduces its life. The high csi may cause other problems with the pool as well like scaling on the tile. You can potentially push the pH lower to keep the CSI down as well.

The cell has been in there for two months now and its working fine. Still making plenty of chlorine and hasn’t thrown any low salt or cell maintenance lights yet so I’m happy with that. The poolmath app has a tracker for CSI. If you enable it you can always have a current take on where it’s at. Definitely at least look into one of those water softener things to at least provide good fill water and prevent it from getting higher. Looks like amazon has them for about 1/2 the cost of a new cell.
