Is it bad for three way valve to be opened only partially?

Hello, my pool has a waterfall feature that I can manually control via three way valve. When the valve is fully open and my VS pump running at it's normal low speed, the waterfall flow is often bit too loud to enjoy our backyard. I can reduce the amount of water sent to the waterfall by opening the valve only partway but I would assume that is bad for valve. Can anyone tell me if that is true?

Also, on a related note, is it possible to somehow integrate that valve into an automation system?

Thanks in advance!

My automated 3-way valve only opens part way for the water fall. There are settings in the valve actuator (adjustable cams) that allow for partial open/close. If it were bad for the vale I doubt the adjustments would be in there and I have seen the inside of the valve they are very well built.
