Over a period of two weeks I’ve followed directions for lowering my PH and adding a sequestrant for iron and copper, waiting 24+ hours and then slowly raising PH up and adding chlorine. I’ve done this twice and every time I add the chlorine my pool gets dark again. What am I doing wrong?
My cartridge filter runs 24/7 and I rinse often. It’s a 20x40 vinyl in-ground pool with a SWG. I because of all this I still haven’t been able to increase my salt level (it’s at 1300) because I’m scared it will make the pool worse at this point.

I'm pretty confident you have iron. Are you on a well? Have you ever tried to filter the iron with polyfill material, either in the skimmer or through a separate bucket? See the link below as one example.
