Intex sand filter

This is the first year I am opening my existing pool. Just about done with the refill. What step do I do first after opening the shut off valves to pump? Backwash for 3 minutes, then rinse and filter just like when I set up last year?

How is the water? Is it clear, hazy, or down-right green with algae? If not bad, you should be able to go right to filter and let it run for about 30 minutes before grabbing your first water test sample. You had to do the backwash thing last year because it was a requirement for new sand.
