Hi have upgraded my pool pump to the Intex SF70110-01 Krystal Clear Sand Filter. I want to use the new return jet that came with the unit, but it's larger than the one that came with the pool. The one on the pool is only 1.25 and has a rubber hose the return connects onto. Why are these not universal in size? How do I upgrade to the larger return valve?

Intex upgraded their fittings to 1.5", but they're a little longer. So, if you use Hayward skimmers and eyeballs you'll need to make gaskets. I discovered this when I put mine together this past weekend.

For the return, you'll need to cut out the liner with an exacto knife. Just put the threaded end of the return over the existing return hole, trace around it with a fine sharpie and cut away. Nothing to be scared of doing, just go slowly.

I just helped a friend with one of these a couple of weeks ago. I second what MWFaith1971 advised. Just be careful when cutting and then follow the directions that came with your new sand filter.

Depending on the intex pool you have, you'll also need to make the suction area larger as well.

Hi, welcome to TFP! Many of our members have successfully upgraded their pumps by increasing the size of the return opening. Intex has used the smaller fittings on all their pools at one time or another. I think the newer pools have the 1.5" openings on the larger pools and the smaller pools use 1.25" openings.

Thank you, I hope my signature saved. I have also recently added the Intex deluxe wall mount skimmer. In order to get the proper suction, I had to use the small plug provided on the second return and now getting lots of air pulling into the the pump. I can see the hoses and the air is not coming from the skimmer side, but from the second return? When I remove the white plug, no air and no issues except the skimmer doesn't work then. Help?
