Installing skimmer and return help

My above ground pool has foam on the walls. Should I just leave it where the skimmer and return go or trim it so the liner is directly against the wall where they go? My return seems to have a rubber gasket that goes on the liner, a paper that goes between the liner and the wall and another paper gasket on the outside of wall

Trim it so there is direct contact
