Indiana Hill Billy pool dig...with pics!

It's been a loooong winter, but the Hilly Billy is BACK!! After much deliberation over the winter, we have decided to forgo forming and pouring the concrete ourselves. Also, after much consideration, we have decided to go with stamped concrete after all. Here are the pics of forms and rebar. Now we even understand bonding perfectly! EASY! Things are starting to shape up. We have been swimming since March 1st. It's been really tough on the kids because they have to stand on stones to get in the pool. It's been really tough on me to keep said stones off the wooden deck and out of the kitchen.

The guys came out on Tuesday and Wednesday to form up the deck and tear up the yard. Both were very successful. This pick shows the crete color. We were appalled. This was NOT the color we chose.

Guess it's here now. We will wait and see how it turns out.

Ummm, not sure about this grey color either. Do we sound too picky? Hope we didn't waste 10 G's.

OMG (Oh my goggles!) We LOVE how this all turned out. We have a few nick knacks to make it a real finished project and we'll check back in after the landscaping. But, we just couldn't wait to share our accomplishments with all of you. We broke out backs getting to this from Tuesday because our son made his 1st communion and he wanted a pool party. What a week, what a mess!

We couldn't concrete the step end because we are removing our septic and hooking into city sewer next year. In the mean time, the Hill Billy built this deck to height and we covered it with matching indoor outdoor carpet. This will probably turn into a pool cabana anyway. The thread will be titled: The Hill Billy part Duex. *Notice him to the left practically running out of the photo.

Gotta love how everyone is enjoying the pool while the Hill Billy (who wished to remain anonymous) cleans up in the background.

got the umbrella from Kohl's.com Original price was maybe $600 something. They had a great sale and I had a 20% coupon. Ended up getting it shipped to my home for $235 total. I really do love it. We destroyed four umbrella during the making of this pool and i was ready for something sturdy. The coolest part is that it has solar LED lights on the inside of it. It is great for nighttime swimming. Wish I had two of them.

Thanks for the umbrella source! We got the exact same model, and same price with coupon. What a deal!

One drawback is the umbrella base. It's huge and ugly as sin. I'm going to toss it and do a concrete in-ground solution instead.

Your backyard is just amazing. Well done!

I followed your posts here and wondered if you could 'throw me a floatie'?!
We need to replace our liner and I am AGONIZING over which one to choose. I have actual samples of every liner but the ones I am most interested in...the GLI Designer Series - Genova mostly. We have an in-ground pool with grey pebbly steps and a grey spillway spa. So I'm worried about chosing a liner which looks nice alongside the grey steps etc... Do you have any good close-up shots of the liner color? I'm thinking Genova is the one but I wonder if it's TOO grey? The Valencia one has grey in it too...but it looks TOO blue?! I know...I'm being a dweeb. And I have to decide by Tuesday! Could you email pics to [email protected], if you have any? I'd owe you a margarita.

canucksdownsouth,

here are two pics. the first is a pic of our sample...prob the same one you got. It does look really blue when you look at it up close by itself. the second is the actual pool liner up close. Myself, when I look at the pool from a normal distance, I see more of a washed out plum color and grey. It just looks really different when you stand way back and take in the pool as a whole. we love the genova liner. it does trick you into thinking it is tile.
Also, when installed and filled, you don't even see the gray specks. Just looks aqua.

Thank you SO much for posting those! That really helps. We actually don't have samples...that's the problem. We only have a brochure. The only samples we have are ones from their regular liner line...not the 'gunite look' line. And because of our darker grey steps and spa...it's kind of a pickle to be in. I'm really tossed up between this one and the Valencia liner. And I think I saw pics on here of that one...and it's pretty too...more of a cobalt blue I think though? Urgh...this is so tough. I'm being kind of a pain about it. My husband is about to sell me off I'm sure. But we have to look at it for a really long time...so I want to be sure! Thanks for taking the time to post up close pics. Very kind of you to take the time.

Theresa, I have really enjoyed this thread! We are about to begin our own hillbilly adventure, with my husband doing our new pool himself. We are looking into a 25' x 50' rectangle. I really love your steps and the liner. If we have questions, which I'm sure we'll have plenty of, do you mind if I send you a message? Of course, I will be asking a lot of questions here on the forum as well. I hope you are enjoying your pool! I'm in Illinois, so not far from you and the weather has been beautiful for swimming! I hope to be enjoying our new pool next year! :) Your husband did an AMAZING job!

of course my husband would love to answer questions! the custom steps were a lot of work for him, but they are the best part of the whole pool. They are perfect to sit on and jump off. I really wanted the full width steps because when we had an above ground pool all six kids fought to sit or hang onto the ladder. Good luck on your journey and try to have a tiny bit of fun along the way!
