I drained my pool for the first time in 8 years for maintenance (tile and spillway replacement & 2:1 acid wash). It has been refilled for 10 days. I am still balancing. City tap water is combo well/lake with a 100 CH from the tap. I have tried twice to order SnoJo Melt 50 Calcium Chloride pellets. Both times I have received Calcium Chloride pellets (94% min) from TCI Sanmar SAE, made in Egypt. First order was thru Amazon and second order thru Home Depot, both with same results.
I have been trying msdsonline.com to find test data sheets but with no luck so far.

Has anybody used this product? Since ice melt is about impossible right now are there any other CaCl recs?
Lastly, should pH be lowered before adding CaCl with saltwater gen turned Off? I have seen that in threads but not mentioned in Pool School.

Thank you for any advice or thoughts, Mark.

Have you tried contacting Snow Joe about this? 1-866-766-9563

I wouldn’t be surprised if TCL Sanmar is the source for their product, and supply chain issues have gotten in the way of typical (re)packaging. But hopefully Snow Joe could confirm the validity of the product you received from HD.

The legit Snow Joe is also 94%+ calcium chloride according to the SDS. <5% NaCL. < 1% other impurities.

It has been 20 hours since I added 21 lbs of TCI Sanmar Calcium Chloride. The following test numbers were just taken and appear to be normal, with an increase in CH as predicted by Pool Math. Note no increase in salt levels. After a couple of days I will add 20 lbs additional which should increase CH to 350 level.

Even at a max 5% NaCL, that would only be like 1lb of salt added. In a 20,000 gallon pool that’s only like 6ppm, so I wouldn’t expect it to show up on the test.

All seems to be as expected, so good to hear. (y)
