In-Line Chlorinator issues after VS pump install

Hi all,
We have a Pentair 320 and just added a VS pump and have had low chlorine issues ever since.

The 320 is set to Level 5 but it's still not pushing water into the chlorinator.

I've moved the feed hose to the top port to get more flow which helps when the pump is on high.

I've replaced the 320's check valve.

Not really sure what else to try.

Thanks in advance!

Dan

Turn on you pump to full blast and slightly loosen the cap on your chlorine feeder to let the air escape. If you open it too much it will start spewing water so just be careful. This will allow you to run the pump at lower RPMs and still circulate water in the chlorine pucks.

You should also not use trichlor pucks as your only source of chlorine. I use them to maintain FC but anytime I try to increase FC I use liquid bleach. Get your FC up to correct levels with liquid bleach first.

Do I need to release the air on the 320 every day? That would be a pain and impossible. The VS pump starts off on high for 30 min, medium for 3hrs and low for 4hrs without ever turning off - so why would there be air in the 320? I wish the piping was clear so I could see what's going on. I'm also wondering why they'd design the 320 upright when it can trap air.

I really don't want to mess with liquid chlorine (BTW, you said bleach?). I'd figured out how to regulate things pretty well until recently and I'm really hopeful I can figure out a way to force the water over the pucks.

Thanks Andy,
Dan

The water should stay in the cylinder so you should not have to do that often. I really don't think this is the root cause of your issue.

You need to read the Pool School articles when it comes to liquid chlorine (bleach). You will not get much support from people on TFP if you are using 100% trichlor as your source for chlorine as you won't be able to keep CYA under control. Those pucks also dissolve slowly for a reason so it will take a while to raise your FC and if you don't get your FC up soon, you will end up with algae and will need to SLAM, which requires bleach.
