IG Static Line Instalation Guidance Needed

Time for a rehab on my 28 year old vinyl liner IG pool. I’m replacing the skimmmer, bottom drain, associated piping, and replacing the liner.

While I’m doing this I want to add a static line that will run to my equipment area to allow for an overflow and auto fill. My equipment pad is below the water level so I have plenty of drop to stub this line up at the pad for this purpose. My question is on the static line connection to the pool, are there any rules of thumb for this as to how far down the wall it should be?

My first thought was to install it at the same depth as the returns at about 14”, however after looking at the pool once I drained it I’m wondering if I should go down to 24-30”, I don’t know that it really matters but thought maybe someone here with experience in this might have a suggestion. My wall height is 40” so I’m flexible with the placement.

Thanks for any input!
