I think it may be time to just move. The pool is a constant money pit.

I’ve said before I can’t take care of the pool financially, hardly. July 4th my daughter accidentally let it run dry until it was sucking air for a good hour. It came on and things worked but then slowly stuff started happening. I had to replace the backup valve on Polaris last week. Then last night water started shooting out of the new valve again and it wouldn’t move. I disconnected it from the wall and checked things out etc then out of no where the booster pump started making an AWFUL sound. A grinding type sound. I turned it off immediately and that was late last pm so I’ve not got to look it over but I’m pretty worried. I will post a video of it and the sound later. Then the filter doesn’t seem to be filtering at all. There was no DE coating the cartridges and there should be. It’s become a disaster and I’m really scared. All advice is needed and appreciated..

My neighbor has had an inground pool covered since they moved in over 10 years ago. One time I saw him looking at the equipment pad and offered to help him understand what he had. He was new to pools and pool equipment. I pointed out that he was missing the pump and the filter probably was not usable. He needed all new pool equipment and plumbing. The pool is still sitting covered and we can hear the frogs in it at night.

My point is there are lots of semi-abandoned pools out there. No point in throwing good money into a money pit if it doesn't bring you enjoyment.

This is the normal noise the booster pump make when you run it with no Polaris cleaner connected, because there is no back pressure for it to pump against. The Polaris pump does it, as does the Hayward booster pump. Can't speak for any other makes.
