I think I need a manual spa vacuum cleaner, any recommendations?

I have a small fountain near my front door. Maybe 6 or 7 feet in diameter, and maybe 6 to 8 inches deep. It gets leaves and dirt in it from time to time, and I need a cheap and easy way to clean it. Up until now, I have been pumping the water out periodically and using my Shop Vac to clean up the debris. But that's a pain, takes time and wastes water (although admittedly not much).

I'm thinking about something like this. Would this work?

Once concern is the depth. I think some of these things require more depth than my 6 to 8 inches of water to work. However, I do have the big pot in the middle of my fountain. Could I prime the pump in there, and then make it work? See picture attached, from when I was restoring the fountain recently.

Thanks for any advice. Not looking to spend much money on this. It's so small that anything that works won't take me too long to use.

Howdy!

Is your shop vac a wet/dry vac? Could you use it in wet vac mode and suck up the dirt, without draining the fountain? Then let the debris settle and just pour the clean(ish) water back into the fountain. Not sure this method would be much faster, but it might save the water.
