I did it, I got rid of my wall bulges and it was easy!

I had two very bad bulges on either side of my fiberglass shell. They were deep also! I was sitting there wondering HOW I was going to fix it, as I did not want to dig out a large section of fill. So.. I used a shop-vac! With several extensions and a narrow nozzle I was able to slowly move downward and across about a 5 foot area behind the wall. The wall slowly went back into place as I went along.

I just wanted to share my victory!

Here is a photo when I started.

Ya you could see it slowly going into place as I removed it on it's own. A few winters ago we had a week of nonstop rain in December (which isn't normal). It seemed to have washed the sand fill downward into a bulge it created. I had some confirmation from a local fiberglass pool repair guy, he said pools all over our area had damage. That same situation caused a crack in the bottom, also my shell and decking had never been caulked or sealed, so there was this gap, I think it allowed a ton of water to wash down. My pool even overflowed from the rain and dump right down the outsides. Anyhow when I drained it I could beat on it and it was like concrete, moved upward and it was like a drum. Took me forever to figure out how to fix it, but then I had to take concrete out to fix some pipes and I finally had my chance. Seeing them go back into place was one of the best feelings ever.

why would you backfill with sand and not 3/4" clear or HPB?
Sand is still commonly used across the country. Cheap and many installer's preference. Mine was also backfilled with sand before I found this forum and learned of better alternatives.

What is 3/4" clear or HPB?
High-Performance Bedding (HPB): HPB stone (High Performance Bedding) at Rock and Gravel Boutique.

Aggregates are sized into one of two categories: clear stone (no fines) or base course (with fines). Clear stones are various sizes of aggregate with the fine material either screened or washed out of the product. Among other properties clear stone allows drainage through the material. Specifically, Clear Stone is produced by screening out/or washing out fine materials.

I was told by others on here that pea-gravel can work as a re-fill for the area's I dug out. Including replacing the sand that use to surround the pipes. I had not heard of HPB before? Would that be a better option? I didn't want to bring in a huge load of sand (the old stuff got trashed as it was mixed with clay), if it would be better to use something else.

Here is the area that needs filled in with something.
