I have an Intex pool that I converted outlet to standard Hayward 1.5" inlet connector, but I can't get the darn thing not to leak. In fact I've tightened it so much that I've cracked it and will have to replace. I looked online (after the fact of course) and it stated that silicone should/could be added to rubber gasket to help with sealant. When I replace the inlet connector will I have to drain water below connector or can I do it underwater? If I wanted to add silicone I was afraid the silicone would wash off or otherwise not be effective if I applied it to the gasket then assembled the assembly underwater, even if I do it quickly. Can I still add silicone even though the installation won't be dry? Or is there something else I can put on gasket instead of silicone, maybe gasket sealer, or Pipe dope? Thanks.

I did the conversion to the Hayward fittings this spring as well, and have not had the slightest sign of a leak.
When I received the fittings, each came with 2 rubber gaskets, and a fiber one.
working from inside the pool to outside, the order in which I installed them was as follows...
Fitting - Rubber gasket - Pool Wall - Rubber gasket - Fiber Gasket - Nut for tightening.
The Fiber gasket is there so when you tighten the fitting, you are not fighting against the grip that the rubber gasket is going to have on the nut.

Yes, that is the way I have it too. So you didn't put any silicone or gasket conditioner or anything? How tight did you have to tighten? I tightened mine to the point that the gasket started squishing out unevenly in places. I've ordered another one. I'll try again. Thanks.
I tightened mine as tight as I could... by hand. Then just snugged it with a wrench. (Less than 1/8 turn)
