How much sand should be in sand filter?

I have an older sand filter (15 years?) where the manufacturers label came off so I can't find the model number. I think it was manufactured by Sparco based on the the small bit of label that was left. The filter is 24" high 19" in diameter. I have a 12,700 gallon AGP with a 1.5hp Pentair Dynamo pump.

The filter seems to be working fine but when I removed the multiport valve it looks like the filter is only about 1/2 full of sand. How much sand should be in the filter?

How much sand should be in the filter?

Unless you can find the model nuimber, you can guess and be pretty safe by filling it about 2/3 - 3/4 full

Is it round like a ball?

If so, it holds 100 lbs of sand

The manual doesn't list a particular level or amount of freeboard.

The filter is shaped like a cylinder with rounded ends.

I've found pictures of the filter and the only spec I find for a 19" states 100 lbs of sand.

All the similar sized cylinder shaped filters say 150 lbs of sand.
