How many legs can I keep? Can't connect top ring on Intex ultra frame. Do I need to take all the legs back off?

I'm setting up a 26' round Intex Ultra Frame. Yes, I read the directions that say to assemble the whole top ring BEFORE putting the legs on. But what had happened was (this phrase always signals trouble, usually my own fault) I couldn't find the last t-connector.
I figured if I hefted it all up on legs, the connector would come out from its hiding spot under the liner. That part worked! Found it!! Now I can't get the last joint together 😭

I tried taking a couple legs off on each side, but still no luck. I'm trying to lift the ends upward and lower them down to fit, but it's not even close. Do I need to take all 26 legs back off?? I quit for the night, and I plan to try again tomorrow, removing a leg at a time. Just hoping for some encouragement that I won't have to undo and then redo all 26 of them. Has anybody done this out of order and managed to wrangle it together?

Those things are a complete pain. Are you doing this by yourself? You really need another person to help muscle it upward enough to where you can fit the pieces in. My adult daughter and I did my last Intex pool and we said a lot of choice words when working on that last connector!

The swearing was definitely a key part of the process. Yes, did it by myself. Got the bruise on my shoulder to prove it :)

The answer is not "three" like I was hoping. That will get you to the center of a tootsie pop, but it will not connect your Intex frame. I ended up having to take off a little more than half the legs before there was enough flex to match the ends. It was quite the wrestling match, but everything finally all clicked into place. The legs went back on faster than the first time, too, now that I have the hang of it :)
