How long of extended warranty on robot should one purchase for Robot Cleaner?

Decided I'm going to purchase the Polaris Nautilus Plus. Unit comes with a two year warranty and I can buy an extended warranty for 2 or 4 additional years from SquareTrade. As a rule I never purchase extended warranties, the credit card I make these types of purchases on extends the warranty by one year and that's typically enough. However, with this purchase I'm leaning towards buying one.

So my question is, should I purchase the two year for $43.17 or the 4 year for $58.65 for a total of 4 years of warranty or 6 years of warranty. I do not believe my credit card warranty extension would come into play here. I'm leaning towards 4 year for a total of 6 years but thought I'd float this by the experts on here.

Dolphin/Maytronics is very picky about their warranties. Square Trade would have to assume the full cost of fixing the unit if it's outside the 2 year period. Motors are ~$500, same with power supplies and the cords are ~$200.

I would be worried that Square Trade would simply balk at fixing it and then give you a pro-rated rebate to buy a new unit. You might want to give Square Trade a call or email and find out the particular details.

Home Warranty companies are notorious for this. I had one on a washer/dryer combo and rather than repair it, they paid me a prorated rebate which was nothing, like a few hundred bucks.

Be very careful here. It could be tricky.

Researched SquareTrade warranty and it looks pretty good AND it includes free shipping!! Also found a 5 year for $40 bucks so its a no brainier for 7 years worth of warranty.

I called Square Trade and they said they only offer a 3 year warranty that runs parallel with the manufacturer warrant which means it is only one additional year. The cost they quoted was $149. They said that ebay and Amazon offer extended Square Trade Warranty however, the prices on both of these sites is more expensive then other online companies.

The fine print on many of those limits their liability and multiple repairs count toward a cumulative cap (usually the price of the item). So if they pay for a $500 repair on a $600 item, you only have $100 of repair value left, even if there are 2 years left on the warranty.
