Every year upon opening my pool, I usually have to add around 200 pounds of salt and 52 ounces of CYA. I am assuming I am loosing this all due to dilution over the winter months as we get plenty of rain year around here. My question is how can I only loose 52 ounces of CYA, when I am loosing 200 pounds of salt over winter… how does that work?

Sorry thought I had posted this in start up and closing

That doesn't seem so off. Seems like you run your salt at 2800.
Salt
(2800-1200) = 1600. 1600/2800 = 60%
CYA
40/60 = 66%

Seems reasonable consistent...

2800-3000. Hayward aquarite, don’t want to fry it at the high end of the salt range. Circuit board repair projects annoy me. I was just wondering how is it that you can loose 200 pounds of one chemical though dilution and yet only loose 52 ounces of another… how does that work?

We are not talking the same thing, apparently.
Do you mean 200 POUNDS of salt, which would be 1200ppm in our pool, or do you mean lose 200ppm?
200lbs of salt is 1200 ppm in your pool.
52 ounces of CYA is 20ppm.

If you lose 40% of the water.

CYA goes from 50 to 30 and then back to 50.

Salt goes from 3,000 to 1805 and back to 3000.

We get a lot of rain during the winter. I close in early October and open at the very end of March. My pool is right at 20,000 gallons, and I’m turning over 40% of that. Never calculated that out before.
