On my pump setup I have the clear braided expensive hose running from pump to sand filter, the rest of my hoses are the plastic type with the built in ends. My question is about the plastic fittings that thread into my pump and filter. Some have the barbs on them, and some are smooth. All are fastened with hose clamps. Is there a difference between the barbed and smooth fittings as far as what kind of hose they are meant for or all the same.

Since you use clamps on all of them, I don't think it makes a difference. As long as it doesn't leak, you're good.
