Wondering if I should add phosphate remover to my pool. I had my water tested today and the phosphate level is 525. Everything else is in balance and my water is clear. My local pool shop told me not to worry about it, but me being me, is wondering if I need to get it lowered. What are your thoughts? What causes a high phosphate level? I didn’t have a problem last year.

525 ppb is not high at all. Phosphates are rarely worth worrying about, but especially if they are low.

The more important question is: why are you getting your water tested at a pool store?

Your pool is an environmental debris vacuum. I live next to a farm and the air appears clean when they harvest or plow but the floor of the pool sure ain't.

It's true that phosphates are algae food but algae can't grow in properly sanitized water so it's a moot point. I compare it to the aisles of cans of dog food at Petco. It's never once spawned a dog. Open them all, dump them on the floor and leave the doors open all weekend ? Yeah. Big problems. You might end up with bears eating it too.

Keep the pool sanitary and it's never an issue for the overwhelming majority.

How are you testing ?

Thank you!
I usually don’t get it tested there. I was going to pick up a pool robot and took it with me just because I was gonna be there 😉

And as you can see they will not miss an opportunity to sell you something for whatever flimsy reason.
