We opened our pool cover yesterday. We ran the pump 4-5 hrs/day while keeping FC at 5 ppm and vacuumed every few days since Feb 26 except for 6 days from Mar 15-20 when night temps were below freezing so I took this opportunity to drain the filter and clean it. The pool already had pollen on the surface even with the cover on. Shallow end was clear, but the deep end was green.

My test results are strange and today I hoped to add LC but my results showed the pool didn’t need it but the deep end is still green.

Sat mar 25 opened pool cover, brush and vacuum.

2 pm: pH 7.6, FC 5, TA 70, CH 70. I added muriatic acid (32% 45 oz). Brushed pool and vacuumed. I wasnt sure what my cya reading was in last night, i thought it was 50 then 60 but I repeated the test several times today I am sure it is 50 ppm.
5 pm: 19
7:30 pm: 17.5 add 2.5 ppm
8:30 pm: 17 add 3 ppm
9:30 pm 20.5 add 3.5 ppm
10:30 pm 22. Add 3.5 ppm
11:30 pm 28.5

Sunday 3/26 didn’t add LC at all today but the FC either stayed the same or went up(?). i am confused because the deep end is still green.
6:30 am 27.5
7:30 am 26.5
8:40 am 27
10:00 am 25 brush walls

5:00 pm 26 vacuum
7:30 pm 23
9:00 pm 26

Holy COW that's the effort we LOVE to see!!! Well done.

Got any pics ?

The filtering out the dead algae stage tests everyone's sanity and it made us coin the phrase Pool Owner Patience (POP).

Stay the course. You got this.

Oh… I put the filter on recirculate. Should I go ahead and change it to ‘filter’? I posted pictures below my first post.

I just received a new pressure gauge in the mail today. Will report tomorrow.
Great! Start filtering. When you backwash, put in the new gauge. After backwash, note clean pressure. When pressure rises 25% over clean, backwash again. (if clean is 10psi, backwash when you hit 12.5).

Thank you
Oh, and scrub your skimmers. Check the weir door foam for algae. Remove, scrub with some 10:1 Water/Bleach if any algae. Do you have a light? Remove it and scrub behind. I don't see a ladder...do you have one? Remove it and scrub under steps and INSIDE the tubes. Also scrub the seal around the steps (in the pool where the liner meets the stairs, there is an overlay strip...algae can hide there too. You got this!

it has been raining all day yesterday until 10 am today and the cya has dropped to between 40-50. I was just not sure with my initial reading because it has always been difficult to tell if the black dot was still there or not.
