Help! Totally new and made a dumb decision

Hi,
So I made a dumb move and put the skimmer sock on the outside of the basket(n). I have an in-ground, we were able to retrieve the sock but now the leaf basket won't stay full of water with the center drain and the skimmer valve open, the pressure gage is barely above 10. If I close one of the valves either the center or the skimmer the pressure goes up to just under 20 which is it's normal. If both valves are open the pump can't get any pressure, I tried putting water in the leaf basket, I tried having 1 valve open(center drain) and slowly open the skimmer basket and as I open the valve I lose pressure. I'm not sure what to do, this is only my second year with the pool and any advice would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to TFP! Let's make sure we're talking the same language here. So the skimmer sock was around the outside of the basket versus inside it, and what then, you suspect the sock netting got sucked into the suction line? Because now the pump pot (with the strainer basket in it) won't stay full? Is that correct?

thank you for replying!!, Yes I stupidly put the sock on the outside of the skimmer basket and I noticed the fountain attached to one of the jets was not strong so I pulled the basket out of the skimmer and the sock was gone and there was no water flow going down the skimmer. I immediately shut the pump off and called for help. This morning we got the sock out of the line right at the 90 degree below the skimmer and turned the pump back on and even after a few minutes theres very little pressure. Thats with the center drain and skimmer open, if I close one(either one doesn't matter) the pump loses pressure

Well that's odd then. If you got the sock out you would think water flow should be good. I wonder if something else slipped past the skimmer basket once the netting was gone. It doesn't take much with trees (pecans, acorns, etc). Have you tried pushing water backwards from the pump to the skimmer?

Might also help to post some pics of your equipment pad so we can see all the lines, valves, etc.
