Hello!
I had a pool guy opened my pool last Thursday. The pool was black and green last Thursday. See picture with my hubby in the background. Pool guy brushed it and put chlorine ( i believe he used granules). But yesterday i tested the Cl level and it was zero. So here I am trying to clear this on my own.
Pool chemistry yesterday=
Cl=0
TA=100
Ca=180
pH=7.2
So yesterday, went to Lowes all they had was clorox pool shock. Last year I only used liquid Cl but it is tough to find this year and Walmart limit purchase to two 1-gal bottles per person.
So i bought the clorox shock and applied 3 pounds as well as put 4 clorox tabs in the skimmer yesterday afternoon. Tested Cl again in the evening, it was 0.5 (lol).
I tried my luck at home depot and they have few boxes of liquid Cl. I bought 9 -1 gallon bottles and applied all last night. At 7 am this morning Cl=9 , pH=7. I tested again at 10am, and Cl=7.5 so I added 1 gallon of Cl and Cl=10 30 mins after that. The pool is now teal in the shallow end and dark green in deep end. See picture
I am out of cya reagent but while I wait what should I do other than brushing the pool and backwash? I can add more Cl. Based on my experience last year, the clorox tabs added 50 ppm cya when they fully dissolved. Not sure how much cya in the shock.
I also want to vacuum the pool with my polaris robot but is it a good idea to use it with Cl level of 9?
And the idea of having a saltwater system is very attractive to me now. I was hesitant last year since it was first time i maintained a pool. It was too much information for me to handle . But with a saltwater system, once I clear the water do i ever need to put liquid chlorine again (assuming the system) works .
I missed the pool slam zoom call. Hope you guys will do it again. Thank you so much for everyone’s help
