I plan to add a Stenner pump/tank for automatic liquid chlorine dosing and connect it to my Aqualink RS to have it run "X" amount of time per day. I'm looking for a little help on which pump configuration is most suitable my needs. I was looking at the 45MPHP10 Model Fixed Flow Pump (100 psi, 10gpd), but there are a number of setups with 25 or 100psi discharge and rates from 3 - 22 gpd. 3 gpd should be sufficient but a 10 gpd or higher would give flexibility if i needed to use lower concentration bleach for some reason.

I need to pump ~0.75 gpd of 10% LC and I've never seen the pressure gauge on my filter above 20 psi but I don't know how accurate it is.
  • Is 25psi output sufficient or do I need pump with 100psi max discharge?
  • Is there drawback to 100 psi pump? Risk of overpressuring system? I'm not sure what the design pressure of my system is.
  • Is it better for 3 gpd pump running 6 hrs a day better vs higher capacity pump running for 45 - 90 mins?
    • I'm more concerned with pump reliability/longevity and any issues with higher chlorine concentrations in plumbing over shorter time period rather than electricity cost of running pump longer.

I started out with a 45MPHP10. After the first year I replaced the tube with a #7 to double the output to 2 oz/min so I could reduce the pump run time to increase its life and reduce the power as we have very high power costs here. After the second or third year I removed the duckbill as it would clog with deposits and wasn't needed anyway. I clean the injector port twice a year when I clean my filter. Replace the pump tube every year, the black hoses every other year and get a Stenner flow meter ($20) to give you a quick status that all is well.

Overall, I'm happy with my setup and would do it again.
