I got the Taylor K-2006 here are my numbers
Free chlorine 7.0 ppm
Combined 0
Ph 7.4
Alkalinity 90
Cya 80 (ugh)
Calcium hard 150
I had winterized with in the swim kit took cover off and pool was beautiful. I opened it before learning about Taylor k-2006 and stabilized chlorine. Thanks to the info here I quit using stabilized chlorine and am just using bleach and started using Taylor test instead of strips. When I opened my cya was 60 on strips but jumped up after shocking and chlorine tablets and got cloudy. It’s not super cloudy I can see the bottom but it is by no means clear. I am thinking of trying the alum (floc) to lower cya… I haven’t done SLAM because the number seems so high that I would need because of where my cya is at… my pool is just shy of 10,000 gallons above ground pool. Thank you so much!

SLAM Process is the proven way to eliminate algae. With a high CYA, it’s harder, but your pool volume works in your favor. Most people with CYA 80, we’d advise to replace water. But with a smaller pool, the higher FC needed for SLAM won’t be too bad. Up to you to decide. Personally, just to be sure, I’d do a water exchange to get to CYA 40, then SLAM.

I was afraid I was gonna have to drain some water… ugh I was so excited when we took the winter cover off. I will never ever use stabilized chlorine or shock again!!! Thank you!

the hard but better way.
FLOC is a PITA. FLOC is the hard way. Replacing water is the easy and better way.

Picked up some hitchhiker vagabonds in my day in Molalla, took them to Salem...that was a wild ride. Cute couple, but they smelled. Different world then...
