Hello guys , Pool newb here. I’m trying to understand my Pool set up here specifically whether the main drains are actually working right now. I have a pool/spa setup with an intelliflo vsp for the pool/spa and whisperflo for 3 sheer descents. It’s Pentair equipment with automation. I wanted to test the main drains by turning skimmer off and pulling all suctions towards main drains but I am not exactly sure how. Builder told me he set it up for 50/50 main drain and skimmer suction. Based on the picture can you guys tell me which valve is for what ? Please excuse the weeds I need to get to those. Thanks in advance.

Anthony,

You should set your main drain either closed or only open about 5%.

Right in front of your main pool pump is an automated valve set in your pic to shut off the Spa drain.

To the left of that automated valve is a manual valve with the handle pointing down. This open up both the main drain line as well as the Skimmer line.

My 'guess' is that your main drain is the pipe on the left, but that is just a guess and you will have to experiment to see what is what.

Turn the handle of the manual valve so that it points to the right. This will shut off the pipe on the left. Go over to the skimmer and see if it is working or not. If it is working this proves that the pipe on the left is the main drain. If the skimmer is not working, it means the pipe on the left is for the skimmer.

Try that and tell us what you find.

Thanks,

Jim R.
