Help me decide between VSP or 2-speed?

My current pump housing has a crack in it from the cover to halfway up the top outlet. Didn’t find it until I changed out the motor and turned it on.😑
JB-Weld is curing now.
I had only intended to limp through this season with it and replace it next, hence the motor swap. Pool is 10k FG, 1.5” plumbing. Current pump is a 1.5HP FloTec. The new pump will be paired with a Pentair Clean and Clear Plus 320 cartridge filter and an Autopilot Chlorsync 30 SWG. Both of those items are in my garage waiting to be installed once I finish the SLAM(pool is a pond right now, has been sittting for 3 years, I just need the current pump to make it a couple weeks during/through the cleanup).

I’m considering a Pentair product for the replacement and leaning towards now, rather than later.
Need to decide if I want a two-speed, or one of the VSP pumps they offer, either the SuperFlo or the Intelliflo.
From what I gather, the intelliflo will integrate into their automation better than the superflo. Not sure if that matters to me. I don’t have any water features, so my automation needs would be a daily schedule, plus a remote pad near the back door to kick it on while I swim. Might add a Polaris in the future, but may go with a robot instead so I’m not sure if I need to plan to be able to control a separate booster pump.
Would I be better off with the cheaper two speed?

Check to see if your utility provider has any rebate offers. That may help to make your decision easier. My vote would be for the SuperFlo VS. It's super quiet and would provide you with a range of pump speeds.

Wow. Entergy does offer a $300 rebate on Energy Star certified VS pumps.
Looking closer at the details, they say “claim your rebate now and you could save $300/year on your Entergy bill”. I need to call/email them to see if that means an annual rebate or if they are just talking about how the pumps are more efficient. Regardless, the $300 rebate on purchase is awesome. 🙂

Just ordered a Pentair SuperFlo EC-342001 from Inyo.

Just make sure the pump is on the "approved" list for a rebate. Also see if they require "professional" installation. The $300/year is strictly energy savings, which, depending how you run your new VSP pump, could be a lot more than $300. See my chart below.

It's a good time to calculate your daily FC loss so you can dial in your SWG.

Your SWG produces 1.1 lbs. of chlorine gas at 100% for 24 hours. That will raise your FC by 13 ppm or 0.54 FC per hour.

If your pool uses 4 ppm per day, that's 7.4 hours of runtime at 100%.

This is a good place to start. You can adjust output percentage or runtime from there.

Let us know how it turns out.
