Help identify what's in my pool - beginning a SLAM

Good news and bad news.

Good news: Added 4 lbs of dry stabilizer over the course of the day yesterday. This should raise CYA to 50 and I plan to continue adding to reach 60 or 70. Since I left the pump on all night with SWG set to 50%, my FC increased from 9 to 12. I am no longer worried about my SWG working adequately.

Bad news: I saw more small piles of the dusty brown sediment this morning. I brushed. Really hoping this doesn't come back now that I'm increasing CYA! Should I continue adding stabilizer as planned?

If you are still seeing the brown dust piles, I would pause adding CYA. Make sure you finish off killing everything before adding CYA.

Have the brown piles been there everyday or did they go away for a few days? If you are still seeing the brown sediment, then it's not considered "clear water" yet. Can you pick up any of the sediment? Is it gritty or does it smear between your fingers?

It went away for a few days. Just came back this morning - very small amounts compared to what was there before I began the SLAM process. I haven’t collected any from the bottom, but any that collects on the stairs feels somewhat gritty.

Dust piles haven’t reappeared for a couple of days so I’m assuming that was just dead algae that had not filtered out, or dirt/pollen/etc. Everything looks good. Passed OCLT again last night and continuing to add CYA. Thanks for all the help.
