Help cleaning my salt cell

Unscrew the knurled eyeball retaining ring. Measure that opening. There's probably some type of a winterizing plug made for that specific return. However, you could likely just use a rubber winterizing plug. You'll have to measure the opening. Something like this.

Got it, I can get one from the pool store. My only concern is unplugging the cell. As I said before, the cell is too tight. Scared of breaking it with my plier. But perhaps once I put the plug I will have less pressure and it will be easier to take off.

In fact I have the light of “inspect cell” intermittent at the moment. Which means that is advising me to inspect it soon but it hasn’t failed yet. I think?
This is from the tfp Wiki page on your swg. If the light is just flashing it means it is just a reminder to check the cell and doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. Double check this info with your manual.

INSPECT CELL Light

Aqua Rite salt chlorinator has a built in reminder to inspect and clean the cell every 500 hrs.[18]

If the Inspect Cell Light is the only LED light flashing, then you can reset it by simply holding down the diagnostic button for 3 seconds, then release. The Inspect Cell indicator will now reset and will later come back on after another 500 hours of use.

Yes I just reset it. I will still check the cell soon once I come back from vacation.

Mine is mounted the same way, but yours is much more precarious and the pipes are much more fragile than mine. Removing yours will drain water from the pool so you'll have to plug the outlet to the pool. The unions can be hard to tighten and loosen. People would cringe here to see the size of the pipe wrench that I use to loosen and tighten mine but it's what I had handy the first time 22 years ago and it still works today. I just barely use it as that last little oomph to snug the unions or to just break them free. Put some pool lube on the o-rings when you put it back in. As mentioned, if there is no scale on the plates then no cleaning is needed. It's recommended to not use acid but rather to use vinegar. That will still need to be diluted and takes longer to clean scale off but it's better for the plates. If you can just knock the scale off gently then that's best.
Would this lube be ok? https://www.googleadservices.com/pa...MNAFHZMUI5UQwg8oAHoECAUQJw&nis=8&dct=1&adurl=

I can’t get Magic lube on time at my address.

Would I need this to put the rings back on ? Would it help to lubricate them out?

If you don't have any lube handy you can still put it together and see how well it seals. Most of the time it will. The seal is seated into the fitting and you would only spread a dab around the surface of the seal.

okay, sounds good. I thought this lube would help to take it off. I am still very concerned about it. One of the sides it’s very tight. The one at the top.

Don't crank on the collar alone too hard. I could see that top 90° fitting or the return fitting snapping. You could use a strap wrench on the swg body or the 90° fitting, and adjustable pliers on the collar. Turn in opposite directions so you're not putting twisting pressure on the top fittings.

Let me see if I got that. Use the plier to remove the ring and use the strap wrench on the body?

Would it be the same if I have extra hands? Someone holding the body while I unscrew the cell with the plier? Or do I use the strap to have less damage on the cell?

Scared of breaking it.

Another helper would be great. Anything to keep from twisting the top fittings.
So number 1 would be the person using the plier to unscrew the ring. As for the other person, would they need to be holding it from number 3 or number 2?

Apologies, I just want to have it clear. Because when I was trying the number 2 part was moving around a lot because I was putting pressure.
