Hello from Maryland

the first of the two in-floor returns blew a geyser of water very well. But I never could get the second one to blow.
With 2 returns on one pipe, air is leaving the first exit as the path of least resistance. Everything up to there is empty and you're fine with the valve airlocking it. (y)

Wow. Really? That sounds good to me
So they fixed this and sunk it to undisturbed earth which conveniently for me is below the frost line, but it will give you an idea of what's happening. Air is going to go out the closer return and probably won't take the path with more resistance to the second return. There will be water remaining between the two and it will drain to the low spot. That pipe will have plenty of air in it if the water needs room to expand from freezing, which it almost certainly won't do being so deep. Antifreeze is overkill insurance, but for $4 a gallon, why not ?

You can plug the first return to force the air out the second also, or just let it be.
