Hello,

Just Thought I would introduce myself first!! I live just outside Tampa, FL. I had been going to a local pool store for my advise for a while, Well recently they went out of business. So I figured I would goto Pinch-A-Penny to get my water tested, well I don't think they know to much of what they are talking about. But I took there advise anyways, figuring they're in business for some reason. Well my pool got worse then it was... Thanks. The problem I have is my pool is not screened an partly shaded by a huge oak tree which in the fall dumps tons of leaves an pollen into it. So I figured I would turn to people that know what they are talking about.. I'm going to go get my water tested again today and will post a new thread with results an pics!!

Thanks,
Greg

Hello Greg and welcome. Reading the Pool School and buying a good quality Water Testing Kit (like the one available on this site) will go a long way to solving your problems. Converting over to the BBB method can save you time and money. My advice, stay as far away from Pool Stores as possible. They want to sell you pool chemicals.

I to have to deal with some huge oak trees so it can be done. Buying and installing a PoolSkim can really help with leaves and pollen strings.

Again welcome.

Well the old store that I was going to wasn't that to bad about trying to sell you something. Thats what I liked about it. It was more of a pool cleaning service company with a storefront. They would take the time to write out what was wrong , steps how to fix it. I never got any bad advise from them. Then PinchaPenny moved in down the street an put them out of business. I had the pool great all through the fall an winter, but after the leave had fallen an the pollen was starting it rained. An I haven't been able to recover it.

I recommend taking the time to read the Pool School. Thinking about switching to the BBB method and having a Test Kit. By testing the water, the Forum and the Pool School will walk you through what you need to do. I can tell you honestly that it will be cheaper then how a pool company tells you/sells you how to do it.

In other words, reading Pool School is worth every minute you spend reading it. With a Test Kit and Pool School, any Swamp can be turned into a sparkling clear pool!

Welcome Greg -

I'm near Panama City on a bayou - and I get live oak, sycamore, maple and gum leaves as well as long leaf pine needles! I know your frustration!

As mentioned - read the Pool School! I printed it all and put it in a 3-ring binder along with my customized log sheet. My wife thinks I'm nuts and thinks I went off the deep end (pun intended). But - algae = bad .... crystal clear water = good.

Welcome - I'm over on the East Coast. My initial exposure to Pinch a Penney involved a new pool and three trips to have the water tested - some of the tests varied in a way not chemically possible.

Didn't take me long to find out each store is independently owned/operated. First store has local young people just workin' for a livin'. Another store, a bit farther away, has family members running it and understands the long term impact to their home table fare when they do a bad job.
