The previous season was the first full season using the TFP method and it worked very well for me. I have some trips planned and will be away during pool season. I have a Pentair 320 chlorinator and am considering using it while away. I noticed there is no check valve between the chlorinator and the heater. I was going to use the Pentair R172288 valve recommended to be used with this chlorinator but now have concerns with flow reduction at lower pump speeds since I added a VS pump. Would a Jandy or other type check valve be a better choice? Maybe I should just give up using the chlorinator and tie a floater in the middle of the pool while gone for a week?

If you want to use the puck dispenser then you should definitely install a check valve to prevent damage to the heater from very low pH water.

But, I would go with your plan B and float a puck dispenser. Also, raise FC up to shock level for your CYA. Those two things hould keep you covered for vaca. chlorine/CYA chart

Would there be any concern with a puck floater in a vinyl lined pool?
For instance, if the floater found itself right along the side walls.....high chlorine causing any fading?

Or is this just not an issue?

Thanks to all that responded....Bringing the FC up to SLAM level and tossing in a floater seems like a good plan.
