Folks -

I'm a homeowner in SoCal about to build my pool. I've been looking at heat pumps and I'm getting mixed input heat pumps.

It's clear that heat pumps are pretty popular in Florida, but there are not a lot of folks using them in SoCal. And most pool contracts don't recommend the. Just spoke to Pentair and the support person said that you need humidity to have the heat pump be effective.

I've solar and have more than enough production to power the heat pump.

Any input from folks that are using heat pumps in SoCal/LA area and have good or bad experiences would be much appreciated.

Interesting, A heat pump is pulling heat from the air and heating your pool water so the hotter your area the better a heat pump will work :) it is doing the opposite of cooling your house, it is actually cooling the air and heating the pool...

The new heat pumps will do both heat and cool so you may want one of those to keep the water at 89 degrees
