I have a generic 1.5 hp pool pump that has been installed for about 6.5 years. I run it about 6 hours a day for my 20,000 gallon pool and I try to keep the pressure at my cartridge filter no higher than about 12-13 pounds .

Today, while putting chlorine in my pool, I thought I was hearing cicadas. Kind of sounds like it might be coming from my pump...or it's just my imagination. Anyone ever hear this sound from their pump? Is it finally starting to fail?

Thats a long time! Is your pump sheltered? Bearings will eventually go and more so if the seals around the impeller shaft drip water. Its an easy replacement if you are a DIY. If not it can be outsourced. Now would be a good time to consider a 2 speed pump or even a Variable Speed pump.

Yes, I was thinking 7 years is a long time. No, it is not sheltered but it is in the shade most of it's run time (8am-2pm). No leaks as of yet. Just thought I heard something a little off...maybe.
