Hayward VS super pump won’t stay on DC Low Voltage - brand new

I just installed a new Hayward VS super pump today as my old pump was finished. Electrical and plumbing all hooked up but when I flip the switch for power it sometimes starts and sometimes does not. When it does start it goes to “priming” mode and counts down from 8 minutes. It’s gotten to about 2 minutes and then it shuts off, done. Can’t turn it back on.

It does prime itself and the pressure on the filter gets to abou normal. 18 psi and with old pump would be about 20 psi.

Any idea why it’s shutting itself off? Is it electrical? I have a heater hooked up to the same panel outside and it still has power and will come on. The pump is a separate 220 switch on the panel.

The wires from the panel to the pump are pretty old. Should I switch those out?

I’m pretty stuck here. Just got a new liner on Wednesday but now my water has just been sitting there....

Any help is appreciated!!

I’ve never had a VS pump or Hayward but my guess is that it should come right on once the power is turned on right?

The priming countdown is how it insures it’s primed properly. Have you set your timers correctly? Set the clock correctly? Is it wired to 230?

walk through your start up in the manual. I’m sure you’ve set timers wrongly. It’s priming then goes to the clock time and then the timer, sounds like the timer is set wrong.

I was able to get it to work, but it just randomly started working Saturday morning. It ran most of the day fine, I think it restarted once in the morning. Then on Sunday it reset a few times in the morning and then worked the rest of the day. Whenever it resets, it says "DC Low Voltage". I thought the wires might be bad (frayed a bit on the ends) coming from the outdoor panel to the pump. Now this morning (Monday) it would not stay on and kept stating the "DC Low Voltage" error. I replaced the wires from the outdoor panel to the pump with new 12/2 wires that is solid copper. It ran all day fine except once it did shut off in the middle of the day with the same "DC Low Voltage" error. I reset it and then ran fine the rest of the day.

I'm concerned now because I have replaced the wires from the panel to the pump and it still happened. I saw a few other posts with the same error but nothing great in terms of a solution. Any ideas? I could have an electrician come out but not sure what they could diagnose for me since I replaced the wires now. There is also another breaker on the panel for the heater to an outlet and the heater works fine without shutting off.

Do I have a bad pump and just need to replace it? I'm nervous to have this keep happening because I don't want to come home to a pool pump off and not cycling the water like it should.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like an internal power supply issue. The pump has an internal low voltage DC power supply to run the electronics. Have you tried contacting Hayward? They were very helpful when I was designing my zwave automation system.
