I'm considering replacing my existing pump (Hayward Super II - 1.5hp) with a Hayward Tristar VS 950. During the current re-plaster I added a waterfall, more returns, etc which could probably benefit from from higher flow rates. Plus I could get significant savings from a variable speed pump.
I'm thinking I want to eventually add automation for the heater, spa, waterfall, and maybe solar heat. At a minimum I would want to be able to switch from normal running config to 'fire up the spa mode'. For me that means: display as well as control the temperature, change a couple valves, and control the pump speed. My SWG is a CircuPool so I assume it is not compatible with Hayward automation.

Is it worth getting the Omni version for an extra $500 now? Can I add it later? Will it do enough or should I be looking at a bigger controller?

The Omni is a cheap controller compared to a full blow one.. As far as I have looked at it the Omni will control everything you have :)
