Hayward Slide DE Valve Leaks

Last time I backwashed my filter, the Hayward slide DE valve wouldn't move back into place after backwashing.

I unscrewed the top and was able to pull it out and get it moving again; however, now it's leaking from the top (where the plunger goes up and down, not the threads). It looked like there was some kind of sealant on the threads. Is Magic Lube good for the threads or just the internal o-rings? Is teflon tape a good idea for the threads?

Sorry you have not received any guidance. I think pool lube is always something to try.

There is a o ring that fits around the top which is called the bonnet, you shouldn't need any lube or tape on the threads. If its leaking around where shaft comes through you'll need to replace shaft o rings
